Finding Power in Disability History: Did You Know
- That in 1880, sign language was banned in education around the world?
- That in 1907, enforced sterilisation for “confirmed idiots” was enacted in America, and quickly spread to other countries?

About the Speaker
Claire Andrews from Difference North East will take us on a journey through disability history, showing how the stories of the past shape the policies of today, and what the future could look like.
Claire has a degree in Disability Studies and has worked for charities across Teesside for the last 20 years. A proud disabled woman, she describes herself as wanting to make a “small difference in our corner of the world.”
