An online event for Difference members, allies and partners

Disabled people have always made history. But too often our stories are missing, misrepresented or told by other people.

As part of our Disability History Heritage Project, we’re building an archive that puts disabled people’s experiences, voices and creativity at the centre. It’s a space to collect and share the things that matter to us — and to think about what we want future generations to know about disabled people’s lives and our fight for change.

Join us online to find out what we’ve been working on, explore the archive and help shape what comes next.

We’ll start by sharing more about the project and our plans for the archive, before giving you time to explore what’s already there. You’ll be able to browse the stories, materials and creative work that have been collected so far.

We’ll then look ahead to 2027, including our plans for an ongoing programme of creative activity that Difference members can get involved in. We’ll also hear from researcher Racheal about the archival research she’s been doing and some of what she’s discovered along the way.

Most importantly, this is a chance to think together about what should be remembered.

What parts of disabled people’s history are missing? What stories have been overlooked? What do you wish people understood about disabled people’s lives and communities? And what do we want future generations of disabled people to be able to find when they look back at our history?

We’ll invite members to join a further discussion in December 2026 & January 2027 to explore these questions in more depth.

We’ll also take a moment to thank the people and organisations who have helped us get this far, and think about how our allies and partners can support this work to continue.

You don’t need to have contributed to the archive already. Come along, have a look, tell us what you think – and help us decide what we want to leave behind.
