Background
Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland (CFTWN) asked Difference to review both the digital and non-digital services available to applicants for their grants process.
We assessed the service using accessibility principles—perceivable, operable, usable, and robust—as well as national legislation and international best practice guidelines. The review resulted in recommendations and improvements to their application systems and processes.
About the Organisation
Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland is a key charitable funder in the region. They raise money from philanthropic sources and provide funding to the voluntary and community sector.
The Challenge
CFTWN recognised that there were access issues related to the grant application process and required a comprehensive accessibility review. This included both their digital and non-digital resources.
How We Helped
Using international standards and guidelines, we reviewed their entire application process and provided recommendations on how their systems could be made more accessible. This included applying WCAG 2.2 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) to their digital resources, website, and online application system.
The Results
CFTWN has redesigned aspects of their website, including improving labelling and alt text. They have also rethought how they display images of disabled people across their site.
